About Second Shot Productions
Second Shot Productions is a theatre and film company based within the walls of HMP & YOI Doncaster. We employ a combination of serving prisoners, ex-offenders and others to deliver a range of services from film-making and graphic design through to drama and arts projects in custodial and non-custodial settings.
Though we’re a company and trade for profit, as a social enterprise, all of that profit is invested back into our projects. We’re committed to providing education, training and employment to serving prisoners and ex-offenders and using the arts to facilitate positive change.
Second Shot Productions currently employs fifteen serving prisoners at HMP & YOI Doncaster who work for the company full time. They are trained to deliver our services whilst working towards a BTEC in Creative Media Production.
What Do We Do?
The Services We Offer
Second Shot Productions is able to meet your creative needs with a range of professional services, these include:
- Film - short promotional films, training videos, personal projects
- Graphic and web design - marketing campaigns, corporate identity or branding, websites, company magazines
- Theatre and performing arts - tailored performance and playwriting services that explore the causes of offending behaviour and focus on the impact of crime within society
- Music - original musical scores for film and theatre.

Having a job is identified as one of the biggest factors in re-offending and currently half of all prisoners released will return to custody within a year. Given that the yearly cost to the taxpayer of having one person incarcerated is £40K, that’s everyone‘s problem!But we’re not asking for hand outs, rather that you use Second Shot to provide a top quality service at a competitive price. If you like spending your money in a way that gives people a second chance and ultimately makes communities safer, then I’m guessing we’re the company for you!
As we primarily operate within the walls of a prison, we are able to offer a creative perspective that isn’t available in the outside world. Our team are able to call on their life experiences and use this knowledge to provide a truly ‘out of the box’ approach to creative thinking.
Mizspelt Yoof was a major success. The young people obviously found it interesting and challenging and it brought them out of their comfort zone to perform at the end. Since joining Second Shot I have learnt a whole range of new skills including graphic design, sound and film recording and I am also studying a BTEC in Creative Media. I did not possess any of these skills before coming to prison and I know that what I have learnt will enable me to find meaningful employment upon release. My role at Second Shot has boosted my confidence and self-esteem and had a huge impact on my attitude.
